"I've always tried to be on the edge of being different, especially with my music.
This is why I decided to call my new CD 'Outside the Lines' "
- Ken McCoy
Definitely not a "stand there and play kinda guy," Ken McCoy and his band Crosswind
put on a high-energy show with a strong personal connection with the audience. Raised
on country music, McCoy was inspired from family gatherings listening to his father
play guitar and sing old Roger Miller, Johnny Cash and Hank Williams songs. Less
than a year after purchasing a used guitar, McCoy wrote his first song and at the
youthful age of fifteen started playing professionally.
Released in 1998, McCoy's debut CD Contrasts included the singles Going Nowhere
Fast and God I Love this Country. While both singles achieved an abundance of radio
support and media recognition, Going Nowhere Fast was McCoy's first video airing
on CMT. Although McCoy's debut album received support in Canada, the best response
was in Europe, where several songs made the charts and the album reached number
three on the airplay chart.
McCoy completed his second CD, "Outside the Lines", April 2001. Country Music News
rated Outside the Lines, # 7 on " Delaneys' Dozen" for the top 12 albums released
in the year 2001. The first single "What was I Thinking" was released in June 01
created quite the buzz within the industry and fans alike. McCoy's second, "Nowhere
Town, " released October, 15, was played the first week of it's release on its hometown
station JRfm. As of Jan15th 2002 the single is rated # 62 on the "Country Music
News chart" and is still achieving airplay across Canada. Both singles from the
CD are set to be released in the United States the early part of 2002 back with
an 8 week tour of the midwestern states; April and May. While some of the songs
on the new CD are a collaborative effort, McCoy was its main songwriter.
With dates performed at rodeo, fairs festivals (Merritt Mountain Music Festival)
and clubs the year 2001 was a very busy year for McCoy and his band, Crosswind.
Their natural talent and dedication was recognized this year at the 2001 BCCMA awards
with multiple nominations that included:
• Male Vocalist
• Entertainer of the Year
• Album of the Year, (Outside the Lines)
• Producer of the Year (Outside the Lines)
• Group of the Year
• Country Club Band of the Year
and McCoy's guitarist (Tony Del) was nominated for Guitarist of the Year
To see McCoy perform live is to truly experience his music. Along with his skillful
song writing, natural talent, to his soulful rich country vocals, Ken McCoy is the
"Whole Package."
